Michael Bolt and Adam Bowman

Emsworth

Your Local Liberal Democrat Champions for Emsworth

This year you have two great local Lib Dem champions to vote for in Emsworth.

Both Michael Bolt and Adam Bowman know how much the people of Emsworth love Chichester Harbour and its waters. They too are upset with the continued dumping of raw sewage by Southern Water.

The Conservative led government has continued to allow this to happen.

In the last year the opposition parties, including two Lib Dem councillors Paul Gray (Hayling West) and Philippa Gray (Bedhampton) pushed for a system similar to that which is running in Southsea on Hayling Island to advise people when the sewage dumping is happening.

Michael and Adam would like to see something similar adopted in the Emsworth area, with Southern Water paying for the system.

In the longer term, they very much want to see an end to the sewage dumping entirely.

MEET YOUR LOCAL CHAMPIONS

Michael Bolt is your local Liberal Democrat champion for Emsworth, where he has lived for nearly 40 years.

He was previously a Havant Borough Councillor for Emsworth, in the mid 90’s, specialising in Planning and Transport.

Michael says: “It’s a great privilege to live in Emsworth, and it would be an honour to represent you again on Havant Council”

Like many residents, Michael is upset with Southern Water who continue to pollute our local Harbours. He would love people to sign the petition on the Havant Lib Dem website to Stop Sewage Dumping.

Michael owns an antique shop and auction in Emsworth, as well as being a senior engineer at a local hi-tech company.

He is a regular worshipper at St James’s Church, and a volunteer at Havant Repair Café.

In his spare time, he enjoys cycling and local walks, and is a well-known face at local art events.

Adam moved to the area in 2016, with his family, who have strong ties to the area. His grandparents have lived in Emsworth since the 1970s and many of his extended family live in Emsworth too, so he knows the area very well.

Having attend Portsmouth Grammar School, Adam has been studying politics at Cardiff University and has been a member of the Lib Dems since 2019.

During the Covid pandemic, Adam was volunteering to help the people of Emsworth as a part of his Duke of Edinburgh Award Silver volunteering. Adam has been volunteering at the Beacon Food Bank in the Meridian Centre in Havant. Adam has seen just how much the food banks are having to play an important part in helping the Cost-of-Living Crisis and the effects which the current administration’s policies have placed upon us all.

Along with members of his family, Adam is a member of the Emsworth Sailing Club, where he has been sailing since he was 8 years old. He has, through the club and his family members, learnt to sail and passed various RYA qualification. Adam now works behind the bar, when he isn’t at university.

Adam is very aware of the issues caused by Sewage Dumping in Chichester Harbour by Southern Water. He very much wants to see an end to it in the longer term, but for now knows that we need to know when it is happening through publicising the live information locally. Such a system now exists in Southsea. Havant Borough Council recently agreed to install a similar system on Hayling Island. We need it here in Emsworth too. This also needs to be funded by Southern Water.
